Breast Milk Woes

My prenatal classes was cancelled due to covid-19 way back in February so I am clueless in many things especially taking care and feeding newborns.

Whenever I mentioned my breast milk supply is low I received a lot of unsolicited advices.

Q1. Are you drinking enough water?

Q2. Are you drinking red dates?

Q3. Are you eating salmon?

Q4. Have you tried oats?

Q5. How about papaya fish soup?

Q6. Are you latching?

Yada yada yada. Yes yes and yes to all. Give me a break. My nipples hurt every three hours and I still have to go through pumping even though I can’t yield much.

Has it not occured to any of you there are search engines for me to look for answers and I have a mother, sisters and close friends I know whom I will approach first? Some people just don’t have it no matter how hard they try ok.

I know breast milk is good but I’ll rather feed my baby formula milk than let my baby starve. It is stupid and irresponsible to insist on only giving breast milk.

The beauty of living in Singapore is, there are commercialised chat groups (Supermom) for mummies giving birth in the same month to learn and share. I received breast milk from mummies who are clearing their fridge to make space for fresher milk.

There are also Facebook groups (Human Milk 4 Human Babies – Singapore) where people openly share with strangers in need of breast milk.

Today, I received all these from a mummy staying near me who kindly gave me her excess breast milk. She thanked me for helping her clear her freezer. I gave her milk bags in return. It is only right to do so.

I am not anal about letting my son drink someone else’s milk. He was given other people’s milk for three weeks while I was warded in another hospital and he is healthy.

Thank you to all the mummies out there who kindly donated to those in need. Breast milk woes no more!
