Sunshine Empire. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Only SGD $21 million recovered out of $190 million and only a jail term of nine years. Absolutely worth it in mathematical terms. Let’s clap for this genius.

This did not include money from another arm of theirs which is call Niutrend International (NTI) which I joined around the same time targeted at tertiary students (Update: I was told NTI later changed to Sunshine. Merged maybe?)

I paid more than 1k for 3 sets of aromatherapy which I only received one set. It did not occur to me that I can make a police report because I was afraid the police would laugh at me for being stupid.

The last time I saw this joker was at a friend’s wedding in 2018. I wonder what is her husband’s relationship with this one eye dragon.

Looking back, how could I walk around thinking I am the smartest person and had life all figured out in my early 20s? Whoever that was not with me are lazy, useless and worthless of my time and I should surround myself with like minded people.

They: You don’t need a degree to be successful.

Me now: Yup, with luck for striking lottery and sheer hard work. I have a Bachelor and a Masters and I am currently jobless.

They: You can drive a nice car without much education.

Me now: Yes, with luck for striking lottery and sheer hard work. Referencing to the point above, I guess I know the reason why I’m not driving a nice car.

Turns out that Sunshine Empire was not my sunshine nor many people’s.

I wished I had critical thinking skills to make sense of so called business plans.

I wished I had the wisdom to look beneath the surface of things.

I wished I listened to my parents more and graduated on time instead of spending time trying to earn money via MLM.

For any teenagers or young person wanting to be successful, concentrate on building skills, get a proper job, save up, invest and build income passively. Sign up for financial literacy classes. Start a business if you want. Good luck being the 1% of businesses that makes it. Make friends, don’t burn your bridges.

Slow and steady wins the race.
