Covid in the Community

Recently, the TTSH COVID-19 cluster started and it somehow brought inconveniences to my life.

You see, I attended a baby’s birthday party and one of the mummies worked at TTSH, visited her relative warded at the infectious ward and subsequently tested positive for the virus. She was then identified as a close contact and put under quarantine at a dedicated facility.

While other mummies bombarded her on her numerous swab result, I chose to stay calm and even sent her flowers. Being the eldest in the group, I decided to include everybody’s names to lighten the mood (we are annoying but we care). I know how frustrating and annoying it is to be chased for answers when you don’t have it. She pretty much ignored questions on all her social media and left the group chat soon after.

People can be annoying but you have the responsibility to be forthcoming too because we have families and aged parents who we come into contact during this period. I did not even blame you for me having to miss and postponed my son’s enrichment class because I had to declare “I have been in contact with someone under quarantine” when asked.

一束花看清一个人。Translation: See a person’s true colours with a bouquet of flowers.

I wasn’t angry. Just disappointed.

After attending the birthday party, my father in law threw a fit and demanded my husband’s attention as he was feeling unwell. He visited TTSH and was warded after that.

The hospital went into lockdown after news broke out and no one could visit and give my fil any attention thereafter. I am only worried about his behaviour after discharge.

My husband who accompanied my fil to the hospital had to undergo several swab tests and work from home these few weeks. He couldn’t accompany me for my medical appointments, pick the kid up nor run errands. His existence at home is redundant and pisses me off.

Then, my sister asked me for help to accompany my niece for her medical appointment because she visited TTSH and not allowed into the other hospital. I was happy to do this.

If you think you are just one person, let the covid cluster remind you how many people could be affected by you. After all, we only need one super spreader to form a cluster, 28K people to be tested using taxpayers’ money and ultimately bringing inconveniences to their family.

We can blame the government for allowing foreigners in and bringing new virus strain in but community spread proved that we are not at all innocent either.

I am getting vaccinated next week. For the time being, can you all stay home, stay safe, order food delivery, wash your hands and observe social distancing again PLEASE!
