Wish upon a star. If the stars align, hopefully it twinkles and you get to secure your ideal job.
Before you get a job, you have to go for interviews. Many people dread this part but go prepared and it will be half the battle won.
Read up about the company and prepare questions about the company is a must. Sometime hiring managers don’t have the answers too but it’s really for show.
I usually print out the JD and put my CV side by side and draw references and similarities on what I have done before.
When answering interviewer’s question, I followed the STAR rule.
Situation: What was the situation?
Task: What was your task?
Action: What action did you take?
Result: What was the result? (You have to substantiate your claim)
I used the STAR rule when I conducted interviews while I was working in a bank. I used the same rule when preparing for interviews. It has so far landed me jobs in MNCs. It didn’t work so well for government jobs I interviewed for. I have never been employed by the government and I’m not sure if it is a bad thing.
You must always ask questions at the end of the interview even if you already know the answer. It shows your interest. E.g. Is this a new role or replacement role? How big is the team?
Interviews are energy suckers. If it didn’t work out, treat it as a practice session. Good luck and I hope you land a good job soon.
