It may take a while before I write about job searching because I started working part time.
As you know I have been looking out for a while and I was actually half hearted to go back to work. As much as I enjoyed working and carving a career, I think I enjoy spending time with my kid and taking care of my health more at this stage of life.
Before taking up the offer, I saw an ad at KOI outlet while getting my boba fix and I contemplated to apply for a permanent part time job because it only required 4 hours of work per day from Mondays to Fridays (FYI, I sold bubble tea 20 years ago for the brand Quickly at CK Tang). I hope they offer free flow tea and bubbles during working hours. I was tempted and I actually like being a service staff but I don’t want to bump into people I know.
While applying for jobs, there were also many roles that got me thinking. I could either freelance as a Pedagogy or Andragogy trainer since I am certified but the schedule and pay is uncertain. I gave it a pass because I hate talking and I get tired standing for a prolonged period.
I began to think any job is better than leaving a career gap at my fifth month of being unemployed. The best job is the type that provide stable income, not much stress and not much things to do and I think I found one. I was watching Working Moms on Netflix yesterday because I had nothing to do. For now…😝
During a session with my career coach, she mentioned 75% of jobs are hidden and urged me to activate my network. True enough, an opportunity came knocking after attending a dinner get together.
To cut the long story short, I am back in the real estate industry getting regular pay doing administrative stuff for the functional team and also offering training support on a part time basis.
I am still holding my real estate license and this allows me to sell and rent properties on the side openly. Just recently, I secured a retail unit for my beautician so it seemed like a good restart.
For the current role, I get to close my career gap with some stable income, remain relevant with my HR and training skills, I get to practice and use my real estate license, time is flexible, work is simpler and I get to spend time with my kiddo. What more can I ask for?
Plus plus, win win situation. I felt like I am the luckiest person on earth.
Till then, good luck to job seekers out there. Update your cv, post them online, update your LinkedIn, reach out to recruiters and your network, upgrade yourself and let the magic happen.
