Prawn Story

What is your claim to fame?

Auntie: Er… 14 kg of prawns?

Sometime back, I documented a wrong order I received using TikTok and somehow it garnered more than 93K views. I am nowhere famous but I am surprised my prawn order evoked so much emotions.

This was what happened. I ordered a kilogram of frozen prawns for $14. While I was out for work, my helper received an order of 14kg of prawns together with other items.

She remarked “a lot of prawns” which triggered me to look into my fridge. To my horror, my freezer and fridge compartment was filled with prawns!

I checked the delivery slip and my online order which both indicated 1kg. This was definitely a mistake from the seller and I sent them a message immediately hoping that they can come back to collect fast.

While waiting, another frozen food order arrived. This was how I ended up giving away 12kg of prawns to my neighbours.

Since I gave them away, I was ready to pay and I asked them how they wanted to collect the payment.

I received a reply 5 hours later from another party informing me that they will collect the items the next morning.

Bad timing because I would not be home, I don’t have prawns to return anymore since I had given them away and I asked them for payment collection mode for the balance again. No response.

What would you do if you were me?

1. Quiet enjoyment from the excess order.

2. Inform and return. Let the prawns go bad at my doorstep under SG heat from being out of the fridge.

3. Inform and pay for excess.

4. Inform, give away and pay for excess.

I was ready to go for 4 but the case has since been closed without any resolution from the seller platform, customer service and direct seller so thank you Double Chin Food Services for the extra 13kg of prawns. My neighbours and I enjoyed them.

I would have lost confidence in the merchant and stop ordering from them if they really came back and collect the wrong order and sell it to someone else because anything out from deep freezer would have risked contamination and caused food poisoning. Maybe it was for the best?
