Resolution 2022

What is the general rule of thumb of setting the number of new year resolutions? How many is too much and how many is too little? Three? Five? Ten?

Anyway, Happy 2022 to you in advance!

I am not going set a losing weight resolution this time because every time I announce I want to lose x number of kilograms, I gained that amount. My body just works differently.

Resolution 1: Instead of saying I wan to lose 5kg, I am going to clock 30mins of exercise on my iWatch everyday. Be it a walk in the park, indoor cycling, yoga stretch, chasing the little one at the playground or carrying him home from school when he refused to walk. I’ve been panting very hard for minor movements and I still look pregnant. If I don’t get slimmer at least I get fitter.

Resolution 2: Double my income from 2021. Not going to divulge my pathetic income this year here but doubling it does not seem difficult now since I only work half a year for my permanent part-time and I have not been involved in any new real estate project launches. I am going to sign up to be in project teams for at least one project every quarter. This enables me to get more involved in real estate projects next year and note to self is, “I am not going to choose clients.”

With the fixed income from my part-time job, my humble online shop on Shopee and real estate income, it does not look too difficult to achieve it.

Resolution 3: Meet a friend at least once a month. I reached out to a friend yesterday whom I had not met in three years only to know she is recovering from a stroke. I had a mild stroke last year as well. Life is short. Life is fragile and life is unpredictable. Every meeting could be the last and I don’t want any regrets.

Resolution 4: Host networking events at least once a month to meet new people. Going out to talk to people gets me out of my comfort zone. Talk to people and learn something new. I’ve already blocked my calendar for the whole year to do this and I hope I can keep up.

Although I used to organise events in my corporate job as well as socially before I got married and have a kid, I am an introvert and I sink into my own hole, get lost and depressed if left alone. Working from home and cooping myself up at home does me no good.

Resolution 5: Read a book once a month. Read more and reduce time spent on my mobile phone and Netflix. Religious, business, self-help or any books on paper. My kid’s Very Hungry Caterpillar doesn’t count though.

There, only a few new year resolutions. I think these are very manageable. Hold me accountable next year.
