It was the last day and the official closing of the mentorship programme.
Mentees were all seated and talking among themselves. A handful were chatting with their mentor.
Always. Always go say hi to people you know at a physical event when you see them.
I called out to my mentee and passed her a digital name card. Courtesy from one of my event sponsors for my events business.
She informed me she is taking business data analytics as a major and I wished her all the best.
“My mother asked me to apply for a part time position at a bakery nearby,” she shared.
SIGH… So much so on topics of job relevancy. This tells me something. Sometimes parents are the ones hindering their children’s future.
During the mass session, mentors and mentees were asked to share about their journey.
Observation 1: 1 out of 4 seemed to be a local Singaporean.
Observation 2: 1 out of 4 is a female.
Local female representation is lacking. Women don’t put their hand up enough.
Singaporeans are just happy to fade into the background and let others steal their thunder. We are not hungry enough. I’m one good example.
We should take whatever chances we have to promote ourselves and to build our personal branding and promote our own visibility, I told my mentee. She nodded in agreement.
I really should practice what I preach for my own business and at work. I know I am lazy. I just want to fade in to the background.
I told my mentee she can reach out if she needs advice in future. We promised to keep in contact.
Maybe we can change the world someday.
The End.
