That Friend 15: Rubber Time

Clique: Where are you. You are late for two hours.

Rubber Timing (RT): You all go ahead. I am on the way.

X 10

Clique: Let’s tell her the meeting time 2 hours earlier.

RT: Eh, where are you all?

X 3

One by one, RT got struck off by the other three in the clique. I still meet the other three and RT separately.

She’s not a bad person I thought so I chose to keep in contact.

Never mind about the punctuality issues.

Never mind about being an airhead.

Never mind about behaving like a princess.

She is still young. She will learn. Truth is, she is only two years younger tha

After all, we found solace in each other’s emotional support after my first marriage and her numerous failed relationships.

Fast forward to my wedding in Dec 2015…

RT: Hey, I’ve got exam on that day. I will be late if I can turn up. Don’t worry my Ang pow will arrive.

Me: On a Saturday night? What kind of exam is that?

RT: You don’t know one la.

No surprise. No show on my wedding day.

After knowing one another for 15 years, you think the Ang pow is the thing I want from you on my wedding?

I can only say you know who your friends are when you throw a wedding banquet. It is very clear who made the effort to show up to share your joy. I have friends who flew in from Hong Kong and Japan just to attend my wedding day.

We bumped into each other on the public transport several times after that since we stay nearby but I gave her the cold shoulder and ignored her calls.

Clique: We deleted her from Facebook long ago. We really don’t care what she does now.

I guess I finally had enough after my wedding episode and struck her off my friend list after knowing her for 15 years.

It does say a lot about a person if they don’t have old friends. There must be something about their character that people don’t stick.

Don’t worry. I am not that petty. I will talk to her and send her an invitation for my next wedding.
