Traveling with Pre-schooler 05: Seoul Little Adventures

I tried asking ChatGPT to help with planning of the itinerary but I found duplicated places of interest and logistical challenges. In conclusion, AI can’t replace a mother’s planning yet.

The itinerary below were hours spent navigating through Google and Kakao map. Everything was booked through Klook because they allow and refund and cancellation for most activities.

Day 1: Walk to Ikseondong Hanok Village since it is within walking distance from our Hanok.
Draw your fortune.

We were tired and hungry from our flight and big luggages but it was too early for dinner so we headed to Ikseongdong Hanok Village for coffee, snacks and dinner before we headed back.

Most buildings are preserved aesthetically but modern businesses inside. Think Tanjong Pagar.

Day 2: Hanbok Rental and head to Changdeokgong.

There are plenty of Hanbok (Korean traditional outfit) shops with mins of walking near our stay. They have secured lockers for bags but I think it is useless for mummies because we need our barang barang 24/7.

Day 3: Hotel transfer and chill at Myeongdong. Tayo Bus Stop at Myeongdong Station Exit 4.

“Ta Ta Yo, Ta Ta Yo, he’s a friendly little bus…”

The famous Tayo Bus (stop) will keep your child engaged for a while. It is right outside Olive Young so get your husbands to look after the kid while you shop. 😆

Myeongdong Cathedral at night.

A place to visit after dinner. It was near Christmas so lights are pretty and crowded. Insides of the Cathedral felt like our St Andrew’s Cathedral.

Day 4: Bus Tour – Namsan Tower is the highlight.

Experience from traveling taught me the best way to see a city is via buses. Sight seeing tour bus that is. I deliberately put this one the itinerary in the morning so we can hop off at places we want to see and hop on to the next place of interest.

We overestimated our physical capability having to push a 17kg preschooler on a cheapo stroller up a mountain. I was alone most of climb because the husband was off looking for a toilet to pass motion.

Day 5: Day Tour – Alpaca Farm, Rail Bike & Nami Island

This should be the best on itinerary but the supposed snow became rain due to the change in temperature. It rained the whole day and we were wet at the end of the day. Note to self, remember to bring our own child sized raincoats as those sold at tourist spots are too big and long for a 100cm child.

Despite the rain, the Alpaca farm was a great experience! My child loved feeding the alpacas and being up close to the alpacas. I know JB and Taipei have alpaca cafes but the experience on a farm is different.

Rail bike was all right but I think it is better for older kids. My husband was complaining about how hard his legs worked.

Finally, the damper was Nami Island because we did not make it as the child decided to nap like a log when we reached the jetty. We would have carried the child if it was snowing but it was raining so we ended up chilling at the jetty cafe and waited for everyone to be back.

I was so guilty for not checking the weather and dressing my child with waterproof pants and forgetting to pack an extra pair of pants because his diaper leaked while he was napping. He refused to wear his pants back as an outer layer. I pasted heat pack all over his thermal leggings and wrapped him up with my coat to keep him warm. Sorry my baby 😢.

Day 6: Seoul Land

Seoul Land is not as sexy as Everland or Lotte World. I wanted to visit somewhere suitable for preschooler and this seemed to be off the beaten track.

Guess I was too adventurous with this because this place is so local that I don’t see or hear any other foreigners.

We did Korean style longkang fishing here. The fishes died soon after probably due to shock and motion sickness from the little one running around with the container they were in. Hence, we fed the dead fishes to the residential stray cats.

This place would be perfect if we visit a week later because the snow Sledge Park would be open a few days before Christmas.

You will notice I don’t have a packed itinerary. I do have many places on my original itinerary but below are the places I managed to cover.

A cranky child needing a nap is the spoiler of all planning.

For a relaxed trip, choose the most important activity you want to cover and consider it an achievement. Any other activities covered else are bonuses.

Maybe two a day if you are feeling adventurous.

Three is just pushing it.
